SHAMEFUL!

What Dr. Phil (and Robin too!) did to Shelley Duvall is simply shameful. He displayed her like a freak for his own profit and stripped this poor woman of her dignity.

NO ONE needed to see her like that. I had just watched a behind the scenes documentary about The Shining, and have watched The Shining numerous times. Now I will think of the movie entirely differently, knowing that Ms. Duvall has become a very sick woman. Before the Dr. Phil clip, we would all have remembered her very differently. We didn't need to know how bad she has gotten.

I can't even imagine what possessed Ms. Duvall's family to condone such a public display of humiliation. They humiliated, exploited, degraded, and shamed this pitiful woman to millions of people. And she had no idea! She is incompetent to agree to such a situation. It's so incredibly sad.

Dr. Phil should be removed from the airwaves. He's a predator who seeks out the weak with a ruse of "helping" only to make them look like fools and for him to collect a fat paycheck. He's a despicable character, and so is his wife.

So true, Nurse1000. I too, and sickened by his exploitation. It's not just her, it's literally every guest he has on now. I have vowed not to watch his show in the past, but for some reason, I still catch it every now and then because it comes on after The Talk which I watch.

I recently had surgery and took a picture of myself relaxing at home recovering and posted on social media. Dr. Phil was paused in the background. The majority of my comments were not "get better" but "OMG why are you watching that sleaze?" I was actually embarrassed to be watching him. I'm done!

Maybe poker's just not your game, Ike. I know, let's have a spelling contest.

I'm a sporadic watcher, too, but never again.

And her family obviously doesn't have her best interest at heart. She's clearly incompetent, Adult Protective needs to get involved. Someone needs to step in and it's not Dr. Phil.

I never will support him either, I liked Shelly in the 70's and want her to be left alone. It's disrespectful. Most cancer patients can at least think, but to interview a mentally ill person is just to mock them. You interview those around them, but not them. Why would you, knowing she can't respond properly? Dr. Phil is a sick bastard.

reply

The only reason this is seen as embarrassing is because mental illness is percieved that way. She is not a freak, it's the people who see her that way that are wrong. If it was an interview with a cancer pacient would you still think it is shameful? There is nothing wrong with mental illness and it NEEDS to be talked about. It NEEDS to be shown. Not hidden.
