Direct to video or cinema?

This is described as being a direct to video release, but in Australia it was released to the cinemas.
Was Australia the only country where this happened or was it released in cinemas elsewhere?
I think in Australia it was used in the cinemas as a part of the build up to the Matrix sequels.

It was both. Certain ones were shown in theaters others on line some on tv etc

I saw Last Flight of the Ossiris in the theater before Dreamcatcher started in San Diego.

I think it was in the cinemas of Brazil.
