So was she really his daughter?

Of course I want to say no,but then why the sappy ending? I would have been furious!
Or do you think they were trying to show that even though they weren't related they genuinely liked each other, combined with Cages character "learning his lesson" and being happier with his new life?

This, he pretending or imagining she is his daughter is the therapy that leads to his new life.

He went to his first wife and she told him she had lost the baby.

No she isn't, but money can't buy happiness and he is happier with a clean conscious and new life.

If it was me, I'd kill the bitch and get my money back cause money buys my happiness.

She got ripped off too you know.

There was zero ambiguity about it. If you didn't know if she was really his daughter or not you were not paying the slightest amount of attention.
