You can't KINDA open a box. It's either opened or it's not. Lara OBVIOUSLY OPENED Pandoras Box. So many things in this movie was just silly but it's good action and you got to see Angelina Jolie in tight clothing so I guess it evens out.

I think that's what OP meant. For the light to seep out, box has to be opened. It was opened but not completely.
