Does anyone know if the photo that Barry showed Diaz of his girlfriend was Calpernia? I reckon it probably was, but then when Barry was speaking to her on the phone, he told Fisher that she was his girlfriend from Kansas. Maybe he was just lying though, so I wonder who was in the photo.

That scene was orginally supposed to be a subtle interogation as Diaz was trying to scope out if the rumour about Winchell was true. Given the original nature of the scene, he would have showed the photo of his girlfriend back home.
In editing, the scene was instead used to show that Winchell was improving the army and was impressing his superiors. I still believe that he would have showed the photo of his girlfriend back home, given the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that Winchell was concerned about and his desire to keep his relationship with Calpernia private.
