to me it is not the better person who played carrie but the movie i think the newer version is the best because i have read the book and the movies sticks to book until the end.

Angela

Sissy was to pretty to be carrie. You can beleive that Carrie was tormented more when Angela played ehr cuz she isnt attarctive.

Sissy. No contest. The original is a classic in every sense and the remake is well... a remake. While Bettis is an OK actress her entire career certainly owes a debt to Spacek's portrayal of Carrie.

Wow... I don't agree. In my opinion, Carrie in the 1976 version wasn't exactly the prettiest person around.

Anywho, I wasn't around in 1976 when the original came out (hey - I'm only 16) but I'd have to say the original (and Sissy) is better. The original is a classic - why did we have to remake it?

Just b/c the movie stuck more to the book doesn't make it any less badly made. There's a lot more to an adaptation that makes it good besides slavishly recreating every scene page-by-page.

In many important ways, the movie did not stick to the book. It didn't have the essence.

I agree with what troy 32 said, about her performance being untouchable. Sissy was amazing and Carrie (1976) is my fave movie of all time.

Sissy Spacek made a better Carrie for three main reasons:
1. She did the nude scenes in the shower without any difficulty.
2. She went into a zen trance, and never blinked during the prom scene.
3. She won a nomination for "best actress."
This is why I think Sissy is better than Angela.

Totally agree with ya, jamie_healy.
Also, she played a very, believable loving role. Something about angela made me not like her character, while when I saw Sissy, I felt for her and liked her.

So you like Sissy's performance better b/c:
1. You saw her boobs
2. Clever editing made it APPEAR that she didn't blink
3. She was given an OPscar nom by a bunch of people you've never even met

no...sissy was so much better, angela's outfit's looked so outdated, it would be a cold day in hell before ANYONE wore those again...sissy's outfits fit right in...and i read the reviews, she only blinked, like, once, because she was trained to be able to stand in a crowd without blinking, meanwhile angela blinked in almost every camera position change, that is why so many things were edited in her prom scene...

besides, sissy made you cry when kids picked on her...angela made you disgusted, especially when her eyes rolled back into her head and when she would not stop twitching...eeew

i agree...Sissy played Carrie the way Carrie was meant to be seen. Her performance tugged at your heart so bad you wanted to cry, just like the book. There's not much sympathy for Carrie in the remake...which i think makes all the difference.

Please did you see her face in the prom scene? She looked like she was hipnotized or something. An amazing performance. Sissy is the best actress who played Carrie.
And if an oscar nomination isn't enough for you, i don't know what you need to know she's a incredibly good actress and much much better than Angela Bettis.

I said NOTHING about whether she's a good actress or not, all I said was that a nude scene, good camera work, and a nomination don't automatically make a great actress.
As far as the nude scene, one was shown in theatres while the other was on TV, so common sense puts that one to rest
The not blinking - woopdedoo, all it meant was DePalma and the editor and cinematographer did a great job
The nomination - an Oscar nomination does not automatically mean an actor/actress is great, and once again, since it was shown on TV, it wouldn't have been eligible which, once again, makes it a moot point.

Oh come on... Sissy is a scream queen, while Angela is a b-movie scream queen. I'm not saying that Angela is bad period. I'm saying that Sissy is waaaaay better. And let's face it, the prom scene here sucked. And please, Angela doesn't have a scary expression like Sissy does.

I just watched the remake of carrie and i think that sissy spacek was a better carrie because she seemed to be more into the part of carrie.I think angela was better at the prom then sissy because she acted more shocked and upset and mad.They were both good but Spacek is the best one i think.

Filling Sissy's shoes in this role is an impossible task in my opinion. No one can do it better than her, though I am a big fan of Angela and think she did a good job considering.

SISSY WINS TOP HONORS IN MY OPINION...When she was at the dance with Tommy{William Katt} and he asks her to dance,the way her voice breaks when she says "I don't know how" and sort of hides her face as she said the line,was my favorite part of the movie as well as the dumping of the blood and her revenge on the class mates.The ending was excellent as well..I give this movie a 10!
