Thanks for posting this. Very intersting read and Knauf sure seems like a cool guy.

Thanks!
Interesting read!

And interesting that Knauf doesn't confirm meddling in the second season (like Clancy Brwn implied).

Yeah I found that curious because he brought up on the Yahoo group a number of times they interfered. One significant change was after Balthus tried shooting Justin, Iris was going to wash his cassock and find a hole in it thus implying that Justin had been shot but had been invulnerable to it (thus paying off when Ben broke the dagger on his chest). HBO vetoed it because they thought it was too much like Superman.

Honestly, the rest of the show that was panned out doesn't sound that interesting. Maybe we already saw the best part of his scripts? The atom bomb deal just sounds terrible for this show.

Thank you so much for posting the links to this interview! I re-watched both seasons as a prelude to reading it and got one more person hooked on Carnivale (la Feria Ambulante, if you will ).

Now I have to orally summarize the interview for this new fan. The story of Carnivale becomes like the stories people passed on in days of old. How amazing is it that this one guy, for the most part on his own (he always credits the people who have changed or added to the story in a positive way) has created this stunning new mythology?! (You have to understand that I look at it this way after reading what the remaining seasons were meant to be.)

And the fans never give up hope. Beautiful.
