sharePeople have been petitioning them for almost a decade now and nothing's happened. I don't think we're going to get anything from HBO at this point. The best we could hope for is something like Netflix wants to continue it and then you'd have to wager in HBO willing to do business. And after that all the major players would have to be willing to return.
shareI'm curious--I'm not sure how these things work. I too had hopes that Netflix might pick it up and write an ending for this series that I miss so much...but I recently discovered that the full 2 seasons is available on Amazon streaming video. (and I was even happier to find that it's free because I have Prime!!) Now that it's available to stream on another site, is there really any chance that Netflix could obtain the rights, or has that ship sailed?
Even if Netflix DID manage to get the rights, I have a hard time imagining how they would make more episodes (or a movie) that would measure up to the original, though. I mean, the actors have all aged significantly and moved on to other things in their lives (for better or worse--such as the case with Nick Stahl) and I'm sure some of that original magic has been lost forever. But still, a girl can dream...

Actually the fact that they have aged adds realism to the story. Remember, people during the Depression aged faster than at this time. Therefore they'd actually look authentically 5 years older.
However, the show itself will not be renewed as long as HBO has the rights, and they do not want to release them back even when the writer has indicated he would give them anything they ask.
I mean wtf, do they still want the rights to the future storyline if they aren't even going to make a season 3? Lesson? Keep the rights to the story, so that the network can never fully take 100% control of the story.
Quit ya moanin
Except. HBO is being such a d**k and not letting the writer buy his rights back.
