How could Ben revive the cat without killing anyone else ?

Everything is in the title. This happens at the beginning. Ben's cat is revived (and killed again by Ben's mother).
How could Ben resurrect his cat without killing his mother ?

I thought that same thing when it was first revealed that it takes life elsewhere. I am near the end of season 1 but it's been awhile since I saw that episode so i forget if the dust bowl had already started. Maybe it's implied that that action alone started the dust bowl? Not sure

Perhaps with it being an animal, Ben doesn't need to draw from as much 'life' to revive it as he would if it were a human being.

Or maybe with Ben being a creature of light, he can heal animals 'for free', so to speak. It seems he can heal people that are afflicted emotionally or psychologically without having to take from something or someone else, as shown with the woman holding the dead baby and Father Kerrigan.

Only refers to people I imagine. Maybe it ended up killing some birds outside.

It was a small feat, according to management. They never show us where he did this. Since the kitten was buried, he obviously dug it up - maybe he revived it outside, more accidental than anything. Maybe it killed a shrub. Who knows.

Couple nearby rats?

I realize that this board isn't as active as it once was, but I've been rewatching the series and watched to check it out here. I also had the question about the kitten. I think they left it open on purpose to show at the end of the episode how his healing power worked for the audience.

I like the theories about Ben accidentally killing maybe a bird passing by or maybe a rodent, coyote, or even a dog that was just there nearby for some reason.

Ben was just a child and I think he somehow knew he could heal the kitten. That could have been why he dug it up after it died (the first time).

I also threw around the theory that maybe healing the kitten is what got his mother sick in the first place, but it doesn't seem that logical when you think about it. She was still alive for maybe nearly 10 after the kitten incident. Hell, there could have been plants about to grow/surface that Ben accidentally killed for the kitten as well. But who knows really.
