Once a woman gives birth to an Avatar as Henry Scudder was one and a creature of dark they go insane. Ben's grandma went crazy trying to kill them all and clawed her eyes out so she would not have to see what she had done Henry had lived. The mask was a death mask of Henry Scudder so she would think he was dead but he was not. He was actually hiding out in the Hotel Damascus and had burned off his face with acid so no one would recognize him until Ben found him and restored his face.

She gave him the knife as a gift, her instinct might of been to kill Ben but Avatar's are not easy to kill and she was willed not to do it by unseen powers.

Yeah,I see, thanks, bue now I got another question,I knew the one in the curtain was Justin's father, and Sofie's father is Justin,Justin is evil and Sopie will be evil after Justin's death, but why not the one in the curtain is evil?

reply

Every generation a creature of light and a creature of dark is born. Since Henry was the creature of dark then Management (the guy behind the curtain) is the creature of light.

MAJOR SPOILERS

That's why Justin killed Henry, so that he could receive a boon (more power) from him and why Management wanted Ben to kill him also.

As far as Sofie - she has both traits of light and dark in her. That's why she is called The Omega. She is the end of the line of avatars that started with Cleopatra, I believe.

So Sofie isn't really evil, but she could become fully evil if she allowed that side to take over.

I always assumed that the line of avatars started with some kind of Eve or Lilith figure. Probably more Lilith than Eve, come to think of it. In any case, before recorded history. Where did you pick up the idea that it was Cleopatra?

"The first Prophet in the mythology of Carnivàle is the Alpha. This creature is never mentioned in the series, but Knauf described her as a female who lived before the Flood and whose story was lost with the destruction of the Royal Library of Alexandria."

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

First, that records of her were lost in the destruction of the Royal Library of Alexandria implies that she existed long before that. Second, "before the flood" indicates that she predates Noah. Finally, Cleopatra's story wasn't lost at all. She's still in the history books.
