I didnt get this one scene

The scene where Will(Clive Owen) sees this kid gets beaten. He takes care of him and returns him to his mother. All they say after that about that scene that there was blood. And his bos asks if there was anybody in the forrest last night. I dont get it, what does the beating of that guy/kid has to do with the story?

My interpretaion of that scene was just to demonstrate how Will had compassion. It makes mention in the movie about him having once been a hard man, (he had killed people they state) and I feel this scene was used to illustrate that he was capable of compassion. Again, this is just my humble opinion.

Reluctant compassion, I think. Because at first, he was going to just turn away and leave the guy on his own. But then his feelings made him turn back. (a bit of foreshadowing, perhaps, as well?)

Helping him home showed his compassion and his desire to do the right thing, but not calling the police and telling his boss he didn't see anything show that he's also staying strictly uninvolved in anything criminal. It's not his business and he's not going to help the criminals or the police, hes' just going to stay out of it all.
