Reading the summary, the plot sounds familiar and Mike Hodges was the director of the original GC.
If this was basically a remake, did MH bring something new to it or was he just picking up a paycheck?
Definitely not a pay check movie for any involved.
This is like Hodges' reflection on GET CARTER.
It is the anti-gangster film.
The world-weariness is overwhelming. All the punchy one-liners and moments of cathartic violence we've come to expect from the genre are drawn out and subverted in this film. There is no sense of justice done or victims avenged - just a gloomy, grief-stricken, blighted planet where those tough enough to live to see another day are shown to be the truly damned.
When I was watching I was thinking this is a poor man's Get Carter. Tosh.
