'He's a bit special'
I saw this on ITV4 last night. This is not a good film.
The screenplay seems to have been written by an amateur. You can't just have a bunch of people talking about what a hard man Clive Owen used to be without it paying off properly later. Any *beep* can creep about sleepily, get a hair-cut and pull a trigger. Where was the seething barely hidden rage that ought to have been present.
Also, the Irish guy near the end who was described as 'a bit special' just seemed to be 'a bit sleepy'. We were given absolutely no reason whatsoever to fear him or Ken Stott's Turner.
Jamie Foreman and Sylvia Syms were undoubtedly the best things in this film, especially the scene where Mickser is cradling Davey's body in the bath while screaming at Mrs Bartz.
Ken Stott, Charlotte Rampling and Malcolm McDowell were completely wasted in this. The connection between Will and Helen was barely implied and the motivation of Malcolm McDowell's character for the initial rape was utterly pathetic. He might as well have said 'I did it because kids these days don't know they're born'.
