most unrealistic part of the movie
first of all, I know it's all unrealistic haha, there's just one point I have to bring up. the fact that the mom was thrilled with that her husband had a son with another woman, no. that would never happen!

share How funny is that
that is exactly the same thing I was thinking when I saw that scene
She should have been furious
I don't think she'd be furious, especially since this he never knew about it, and it was obviously many years before they ever met.
A Fact Of Life...
After Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says W T F....
Agreed. I'm pretty sure nothing in the movie indicates Buddy was conceived from an affair, and since the dad didn't know Buddy existed he can't even be blamed for keeping secrets. Literally all he did was have a relationship before her, which I presume is fairly normal.
share^ this person gets it.
shareShe was smart enough to see that Buddy age indicates that he was conceived long before she knew her husband and she trusted her husband when he said he had no clue about him.
That being said, she probably would not have been quite so thrilled about it, and would definitely need some time to warm up to Buddy, though Buddy does have a way of winning people over, even the ones who are mad at him. But she would be giving some attitude to Buddy and her husband for a while, a long with some side comments here or there.
It just depends on what kind of person she is. This mother doesn't come off as the angry or even jealous type. There was no reason for her to be mad. It wasn't buddy's fault, wasn't the dad's fault. Could they have shown a scene of her coping with the idea? maybe, but it's a family comedy and it would have ruined the pacing. the story wasn't about her. Also, I wonder if the family all thinking that there might be something wrong with Buddy has something to do with it too. In her mind, she might have thought he was a little crazy or going thru something with the whole elf thing. She doesn't seem the kind of person to be angry with him or turn him away if he needed help.
shareI think her husband had enough anger and resentment for both of them. That happened to be the scene that made me see that she was a very good, generous person. I wasn't so embarrassed or worried for Buddy anymore. She was patient with him while he was learning about the rest of the world. I actually wished this movie had more time to show character development and their family dynamic.
shareGood call.
shareI thought it was Walter being a big executive and not having a computer at his desk lol (only noticed that this year).
shareThat's actually the most realistic part of the movie.
shareSanta Claus and elves exist. Reindeer pull a sled through the sky. Toys talk. A man walks from the north pole to New York in tights and a light jacket. An intelligent, attractive woman falls in love with and marries a man with the mentality of a toddler. The woman has a temp job as a department store elf and lives in a spacious Manhattan apartment. Is realism actually a concern in this movie?
