The Witch

Why did Helena Bonham Carter play both the witch and the grown up version of Jenny? Why did Jenny look kind of like the witch as an adult, the way she wore her hair and stuff. I didn't get that part. Is there a connection between these 2 characters? I mean, if they were played by the same person, and looked alike, was Tim Burton trying to make some point that went over my head?

The grown up version of Jenny tells Will that she became a recluse after Edward finished fixing up her house and left, and people began to think of her as a witch. While this doesn't quite make sense logically with the way Edward tells his stories, I think it goes to show how there is truth to all his stories, yet there are also things that he exaggerates, or tells out of order to make his stories better. He draws from elements of his life and embellishes to make his tales better and more interesting. Also, it signifies how Will's mom was the love of Edward's life. Jenny tells Will that to Edward, there were only two women in the world: his wife and everyone else. Thus, it makes sense that Helena Bonham Carter plays both, as it shows that Edward saw all women basically the same except for his wife who was so different than everyone else.
