This film summed up Life of Pi in a few minutes

*Spoilers

But techically, Life of Pi summed up Life of Pi in a few minutes lol

I just watched this film for the 5th time and I only really noticed the whole idea of this film after watching the Life of Pi. Life of Pi was amazing and the idea was very powerful - deciding in which story to believe in; in the films perspective would make you believe in God or not. It was a really great idea that 2 hours of an amazing story could be paralleled with 2 minutes of reality.

But to me, this film rocks Life of Pi's socks off lol
Hospital scene:

Senior Dr. Bennett: Did your father ever tell you about the day you were born?

Will Bloom: A thousand times. He caught an uncatchable fish.

Senior Dr. Bennett: Not that one. The real story. Did he ever tell you that?

Will Bloom: No.

Senior Dr. Bennett: Your mother came in about three in the afternoon. Her neighbor drove her, on account of your father was on business in Wichita. You were born a week early, but there were no complications. It was a perfect delivery. Now, your father was sorry to miss it, but it wasn't the custom for the men to be in the room for deliveries then, so I can't see as it would have been much different had he been there. And that's the real story of how you were born. Not very exciting, is it? And I suppose if I had to choose between the true version and an elaborate one involving a fish and a wedding ring, I might choose the fancy version. But that's just me.

Will Bloom: I kind of liked your version.

I just thought that this is in essence, the idea of Life of Pi.

You don't watch Nolan movies, they watch you!

I couldn't agree more. Right after Life of Pi, I felt the resemblance... Will watch the big fish again.

There is a difference in that in Fish, the imagination spices up life; whereas in Pi, it allows the main character to live with himself.

Yes, there are similarities and I thought Big Fish was much more powerful because it focused on the emotional relationship between a father and his son, whereas Life of Pi tried to turn it into some abstract justification for belief in God which just doesn't hold up to any scrutiny.

I agree 100% and I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

I immediately thought of Life of Pi seeing this movie. However, life of Pi is much much better (albeit not a perfect movie).
this movie is really boring and so politically correct that I could not stand it.
the marvel and awe we feel in Life of Pi, in this movie is plain ridicolous.
I think the big problem is Burton. He's such a distinctive director. Picking a novel so far from its genre was a mistake. You can see Burton triyng to cram his creepy and bizarre stuff here and there, failing every time. Spielberg had to do this kind of oversugared stuff.
