A Scot and a Brit To Play A Georgian? Get Real.

Just watched this on an overseas cable channel so it was probably edited and censored a bit but really an 8? I watched it but didn't fall in love with it. And whats with the casting of two guys from the UK playing a guy from Georgia? Pathetic Hollywood if you ask me, it's all make believe folks, they shun Southerners, kind of like Hollywood of the past using whites to play Indians, Native Americans, and Asians if you ask me. Shameful. Another example, Steve Buscemi as another Southerner? Get real folks.

reply

That's why they call it acting.

reply

Yeah, I was disgusted when I watched Philadelphia, and then found out that Tom Hanks isn't really gay.
Also, Robert Downey Jr is not a genius inventor
Julia Roberts is not a prostitute
Russell Crowe knows jack about maths
Jamie Foxx can't play the piano

All these frauds. Terrible Hollywood, just awful.

reply

actually jamie foxx can play the piano

Ewan Mcgreggors American accent always impressed me.

As a southerner he's got it down. If its him or Bale playing an American I know they can pull it off.

reply

It's annoying, I get you. I'm English myself, and I hate it when actors slip up with the accent. I would prefer a genuine American rather than said British/Scottish actors poorly or unconvincingly attempting it. Ewan McGregor isn't bad, but I still find it a little restless.

Then again the other poster was right about how this is all part of being an actor. If it's just Americans playing bog-standard Americans, it probably isn't much of a challenge for the actor. Many Americans have played British parts too, again not always convincingly.

Did you hear about the Welsh guy who played Batman?

Its that man again!!

reply

Bale was born in Wales to English parents. He was also raised there and claims English.

reply

Yes, but Batman is American.

When Vivien Leigh played Scarlet O'Hara there was a huge uproar. She came into her audition though and had the accent nailed. Southern accents have similarities, I have heard, to British accents. Don't know what they are but I have heard British actors say that over and over again. And as previous posts say, it's called acting.

Filed under "Foolish and Inane Complaints" but your realization that it is all make-believe should make you realize the folly of complaining of the nationality of the actors. As long as they do a good job of acting, what difference does their nationality make?

reply

To the OP.........A Scot IS a Brit ! Ya fool!

But only just ;)

The question is, if you didn't know that he was British would you be able to tell? If not, it shouldn't bother you.

Excuse my English please, not a native speaker.

reply

HE WAS FROM ALABAMA!!!

And no it is hilariously nothing like having whites play another race.
