You might just not like the way the film is being strung together. It can be slow in some parts, but it picks up soon after it starts getting boring. You just have to buy into Bloom's stories, and want to believe that they're real, and you will start becoming invested into the film and its characters.
I for one think that this film is beautiful, and has an excellent way of weaving the plot together.
"Haha... Optimus Prime."
I can understand those who don't like the movie. Well, maybe I can't. Not really, but I'm not going to try to get any of you to think otherwise. I personally love this film. I planned to go to sleep at a reasonable time last night, but unfortunatel for me, this movie was on. I waited through all the commercials to get to the end of this film. I hadn't seen it in a while, but watching it last night I remembered why I loved it so much. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty
I'm trying..I really am. 35 minutes in I find myself online reading news articles glancing periodically.... I wan to keep watching because everyone tells me how beautiful and touching this movie is, but I can't.
I'm moving on to the next movie.
I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinions, but to me, this was one of the best films I've ever seen. It's one of the few times where the film is better than the book. It's one of the best fairy tale style films out there, deserved to be mentioned with "The Princess Bride". I can relate to Billy Crudup's character at times, so that could be one reason why I appreciate it more than others. Plus I was impressed that it was done by Tim Burton, since most of his films have a dark overtone about them. I'd love to see him direct another flick like this one.
shareI'm not really buying that people who dislike it are in need for more action or explosions. That's what I would call a weak argument to defend a movie u love when a handful of people say they find it bad or boring.
I just wanted to add that this movie could have done as a fantasy movie way better. I actually suggest to watch Hans Christian Andersen: My Life as a fairy tale. That movie switches between real life and fairy tales way better and leads actually to something. BUt that's just my opinion.
I love every second of it. Is it boring for some? Sure. It's not type of movie that can completely satisfy all viewers. First of all, some people don't like Burton's style - sometimes creepy, gothic, sometimes fairy-tale looking or just weird - it's all about personal tastes. I enjoy it a lot and many people do, trust me.
Visually, it's more artsy, slower at times and less kinetic (less patient audience will lose it here) but overall stunning and beautiful just to look at it. Story itself isn't complex, it follows an 'ordinary' life of a great, imaginative and very sociable man. Details, people and situations he went through his life, despite he told them in his own way, actually hide many metaphors about life in general... love, friendship, honor, bravery..
If you couldn't recognize anything of these (especially after many occasions) than you better let it be. It's one great film, one of Burton's best, and people who enjoyed it are rewarded with very special and touching piece of art. And for those who didn't.. I'm sure there are plenty of movies to satisfy that class of viewers.
You go Glen Coco...
I wouldn't know, I love boring movies.
Don't criticize what you can't understand
I generally love Tim Burton, but didn't care for this one at all.
Too schmaltzy. I like the dark undertones of his films, which was lacking in this one.
After the fist half I get bored... still watch the rest, but I dont like too much.
shareMinor spoiler in the first paragraph-
I have usually been in the position of really hating a movie that many people love (Independence Day, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Moulin Rouge). In this case I really loved Big Fish, which I watched last night on a DVD on my laptop. I was touched by the father-son interaction, and I was held by the various fantasy adventures. In short, I bought the characters and the theme. The only 'what-the' moment I had was after the deluge where the young Bloom senior is shown looking up at his Charger stuck high in a tree. I had a fleeting "how did he get down?" thought. Otherwise, I was drawn into the story and not in the least bored.
I cried. Not something I do normally. The theme and the music worked on me as they were no doubt intended.
Since I have been in the position of hating something that other people like, I have no problem that certain people didn't like the movie, but I find it more better when the 'haters' can explain in some detail what they didn't like, or what about the movie failed.
I think the term "Southern Gothic" is a good one, but speaks more to the style than the theme. The theme was the universal one of bridging the generation, and the fundamental un-knowability of even our nearest and dearest at times. And the transmission of emotional truths.
