A question for girls who have seen this movie

If a guy tried to win your heart, in real life, the way Ed goes about wooing Sandra, with those grandiose, over-the-top expressions of love, how would it make you feel? Would you be moved and impressed? Or would you be scared and uncomfortable? Or something in-between?

reply

In my experience, guys who do stuff that grandiose are usually doing it to show how great they are. Much of the time it has nothing to do with the girl, but rather turns out to be a sign of either overconfidence or insecurity...so I would be put off.

It is, however, nice to see it in a movie and assume the best. :)

Incidentally, one of the ways my fella won me over was with tall tales. That man sure can spin a yarn! I wonder how long we will last before I completely stop trusting him... :D

As long as other factors about the guy do not indicate someone completely off his rocker (unbalanced), I'd be moved and impressed and flattered. I'm a sucker for being made a big fuss of because I haven't had much of that in my life. If someone went all-out for me like that it would be a nice change.

Speaking from my experience, it depends.

When I was 17 a male friend planned our senior prom around being the perfect evening to declare his love for me... While very romantic, picturesque, sweet, considerate, touching and flattering, I was TERRIFIED. It probably didn't help that I had no idea of his feelings, so was simultaneously bowled over by it all as it was unexpected, and embarrassed as everyone else at school knew.

But, if he had been transparent about his affection and my emotions weren't bombarded by simultaneous humiliation (at being so ignorant I didn't see it coming!), confusion and shock, then things might have been different.

In the movie Edward is totally upfront from the start, which for me makes a big difference.

Not to mention, he looks uncannily like Ewan McGregor! ;)

reply

If a complete stranger just told me he'd obsessed over me for three years and then did all of this while we were not hanging out or even really talking I would be very nervous. Most people would consider this stalking.

reply

Definitely impressed. But, if he looked like Ewan McGregor, there would be no need to, since I would just dump my fiancé as soon as he knocked on the door.

reply

Right??? He's so dreamy in this movie!

one of those things that only work in the movies
