Mary-Louise Parker was FAR superior to Meryl Streep...

in this production--and how was she supporting when her part was bigger than Streep? Also Justin Kirk was FAR superior to Al Pacino and Jeffrey Wright I thought.

reply

I think they were all brilliant in equal but different ways. Not taking anything away from the great Miss Parker, but Streep played a convincing old male Rabbi in this.

She's a chameleon. What an actress.

reply

Another patented Streep phony "gimmick". She should thank her makeup man.

reply

Should she thank her makeup man for sounding and acting convincingly like an old male Rabbi, too?

reply

Absolutely--BTW I wasn't fooled when I saw the show. It sounded like Meryl Streep with a wonky Yiddish accent.

reply

How does the makeup man deserve credit for her acting? You can dress someone up in a costume, but if they can't act the part then it doesn't work.

reply

Oh really--ask F. Murray Abraham about how his makeup artist helped him win Best Actor for Amadeus.

reply

Do tell. How did he help? Give me the details.

reply

By creating the aura that surrounds a character. Streep should get on her hands and knees and thank her makeup people-The Iron Lady, Ironweed, Silkwood, and this miniseries amongst others.

reply

Creating an aura that surrounds the character? It's a makeup job. They could put the same great make up job on Paris Hilton, but do you think she'd give as convincing a performance as Streep did?

Of course not. You're giving way too much credit to some make up and a wig, over the brilliant actress who made it all work.

reply

She's not a brilliant actress--what she is is a Rich Little impressionist whom middlebrow people in this country THINK is a brilliant actress. Streep is all mannerisms. ticks, and gimmicks--but it does work for her.

reply

She is a brilliant actress. A legend in Hollywood and rightfully so. If you call her acting just ticks, and mannerisms, then you don't know what great acting is.

Her Golden Globe win for this was just another feather in her cap that she earned.

reply

She's the phoniest, most overrated performer Hollywood has ever produced with the possible exception of that blue-ribbon, coy attention grabber Tom Hanks.

Streep could fart on the screen for two hrs and get a nomination. It's almost a reflex action on the part of the Academy.

reply

Nice bitter conjecture there. You've totally convinced me she's a phony just because you think so.

reply

Thank you.

reply

You're welcome. Denial suits you.

reply

And B. S. suits you.

reply

You'd know. It's like a second language to you.

reply

You can actually sit there with a straight face and not admit that Miss Streep is the most overrated actress in history? Every time I see her on the screen with those acting school accents I want to cringe. And then when she speaks w/o an accent in that dull, timberless "natural" voice of hers, she could put you to sleep faster than Tylenol PM.

She's so ridiculously mannered-you can sit there and say to yourself-"now, she'll touch her nose, now she'll tilt her head, now she'll she'll scratch her head, now she'll exhale loudly." The only time I actually enjoyed a performance of hers was A Cry In The Dark where she was SUPPOSED to be annoying--as she is.

Have a nice holiday.

reply

Yes, I can not admit something which isn't true with the straightest face you can imagine.

Your juvenile rants about her accents and her voice are laughable. She's one of the greatest actresses of all time. A legend.

reply

An overrated fatass, mannered nothing of an actress whom people feel raises their IQs when they praise her. She's Rich Little in drag doing 3rd rate impressions.

reply

Change the record. That wasn't convincing or true the last three times you said it.

reply

Maybe it'll be convincing the 4th time. I suppose I'll have to suffer through her latest "accented" role-southern in August whatever it is. This will be another I suspect in a long line of undeserved nominations by lemmings in the academy.

reply

Or you could just not watch the movie if you hate her so much. But since you keep watching her stuff I'm guessing you don't dislike her half as much as you say.

reply

Or I simply watch a lot of movies--even those starring pretentious, overrated actresses-whom people feel raise their IQs when they watch her lousy movies--most of which are box office duds.

reply

So you watch movies you think are stupid and lousy? That says more about you than it does about Streep.

reply

No dear, it says that I'm a movie aficionado and I take the good with the bad--anything with Streep (Rich Little)in it though has to be caught right away b/c they are usually box offices duds.

reply

No dear, it says you go and watch movies with an actress you clearly dislike, meaning you are either a glutton for punishment, or do you don't dislike her half as much as you say.

I'd say it's the latter.

reply

Well first of all I'm a retired professional film critic who wrote for a newspaper SO I se a lot of pictures with actors/es I don't like. And Streep was and is at the top of the list. The only other one comparable to her is the dreadful Tom Hanks-a nasal, whining, arrogant thing with two slits for eyes.

Anyway, I can practically guarantee you that at least 50% of the ballots cast for this fat-assed cow in today's nominations were from members who didn't even see the picture. As I've said before it's just a reflex action.

Why? If it's not your job any more then why are you going to see movies with actors you obviously don't like?

And Streep was and is at the top of the list. The only other one comparable to her is the dreadful Tom Hanks-a nasal, whining, arrogant thing with two slits for eyes.

Hanks hasn't got the rep or the amazing talent that Streep has.

You can't practically guarantee anything. You're just assuming.

reply

a) B/C it's a habit, is that ok with you?

b) neither Streep nor Hanks has amazing talents--BUT they're BOTH prime time Hollywood butt kissers of the first order.

c) of course I'm assuming--but I'll bet I'm right.

reply

a) Yeah if you like wasting your time on movies you won't like then you go right ahead.

b) Streep is an amazing talent, and one of the true Hollywood legends. She doesn't need to butt kiss anyone. Her status was solidified years ago.

c) I bet you're not.
