your ONE favorite scene

okay, I'll go easy... you get one favorite in Part 1 and one favorite in Part 2. Pick 'em and weep.

(I acknowledge that this is a bit of a steal from GI's 'SINGLE favorite line' thread, but oh well. I guess I'm tired of seeing all the angry trollbait threads at the top of the board.) Come on kids, let's have some fun! Remember fun? Favorite scenes.... go!

Roy Cohn's death scene was incredible.

Belize's description of heaven to Cohn. Heaven is ideal because Cohn is excluded from it.

I'm watching the series right now so I'm not positive on my favorite scenes in part 2. It's also hard to pick a favorite scene in part 1 because there are SO many good ones. But I think one of the top would definitely have to be the "threshold of revelation scene"/joint hallucination and dream. I laugh SO HARD when Harper says "you're wearing makeup" and Prior goes "So are you" to which Harper responds "But you're a man". At that point Prior looks in the mirror and SCREAMS and then goes "The hands and feet give it away." Oh my god I had to go back and rewatch that scene because I laughed so hard. And the part where she says "Some part of you is free from disease" is SO SWEET and incredible. This is followed closely by Harper and Joe's scene asking if he's a homo where she stops him by swearing she'll put dinner back in the oven and burn it so bad smoke'll come out and asphyxiate everyone in the building, then the joint-revelation scene particularly Louis and Prior's scene which is just absolutely HEART RENCHING. I also love the scene where we first meet Belize when Prior cries and goes "I want my f*(king boyfriend" I was almost in tears. Finally my favorite is the Moon River scene, including the beginnign of it when the two ancestors shows up and Prior goes "Look, Garlic, a mirror, a crucifix, F*(K off get the F*(K away from me!!" and then when he and lOuis dance it's so romantic and sweet and wonderful. Justin Kirk absolutely FLOORED me in this miniseries, he is INCREDIBLE! I also loved the scene between Emma Thompson and Meryl Streep where Emma Thompson plays the homeless woman it's HILARIOUS to see these incredible actresses work together like that. I don't know there's so many I just can't choose!!! One scene I did not like personally... where Louis and Joe get together and the smelling scene. No I am not homophobic or anythign I fully support gay rights but I hate these characters at this point because they have both abandoned their significant others and seeing them get together just disgusts me, especially when the people they claim to love are floundering - Harper's being arrested for cutting down a tree with her teeth while hallucinating she's in Antarctica cause she's doped up on Valium, and poor Prior's having sex with a woman angel while dying of AIDS. These people needed Joe and Louis and they walked out just to end up getting together. It's SO WRONG!

I know that's like most of the scenes in the first part but I just couldn't choose because I love them all, this is a fabulous movie!

OK so I have now found my 2 favorite scenes:
Part 1 - Harper and Priors joint hallucination/dream scene. Hilarious and beautifully written
Part 2 - Louis and Joe's confrontation over Joe's decisions with law and Joe's beating Louis. I hate that Joe beats him but the scene is so well written and well done it's INCREDIBLE Ben Shankman blew me away in that.

Close seconds are the ones mentioned above, but also the scene with Hannah and Prior when she comforts him and talks about the angel. Definitely the scene where Louis sees Prior again and goes "hello" to which Prior responds "F*(k you you little s&^tbag!" I also love Prior's "F*(K you I'm a prophet!" And the scene where Belize and Prior go to see Joe, oh my god I had to rewind both of those scenes and watch them again because I laughed SO HARD they're so good and so funny!!! I also love the scene with wrestling the angel - "you you you wrestle her!" "Say what?" "You wrestle her I don't know how to wrestle!!" and "Now release me. I have torn a muscle in my thigh" from the angel was great. I'm not crazy about Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson making out but maybe that's just cause I have such respect for these actresses and it's kinda weird to me... And Ethel helping Louis say the Kaddish over Roy is wonderful.

This is an amazing movie and I love it and I still have the ending to go!

Part 1: When Prior tells Louis he's sick. "My troubles are lesion...I can't find a way to spare you baby...Because I was afraid you'd leave me Lou..Then you'll come home? Then I'll come home."

Part 2: When Roy and Belize first meet.."Pain's life..Sing it baby..We shall overcome. I'm not racist...Consider it solidarity, one *beep* to another"
Then the other Belize and Roy scenes..
About the AZT, where they trade racial slurs..now you can have a bottle...The talk of heaven.."and you ain't there. And Heaven? That was heaven, Roy. The *beep* it was."

part 1: harper in antarctica. possibly my favorite scene EVER. i'm surprised it's not as popular on here. other than that, i'd have to say hannah & the homeless woman, and when ethel shows up to roy's house.

part 2: harper & hannah in the mormon visitors museum, especially when harper talks to the mormon wife on display. also, harper on the plane at the end.

My one favourite scene (and monologue) is when Belize tells Roy Cohn what Heaven looks like; he delivers it perfectly. In my opinion, one of the best scenes in movie history.

There´s much more, I think I love every single second of this show! I rewatched it last week, spread out over several days, and I just couldn´t believe how much talent there has gone into this project.

The scene in the kitchen with Hannah and Harper. Hannah's speech about dissappointment in life is really powerful. It's like someone slapping you in the face with truth. The funny part is, Harper is so gone the story doesn't even effect her.

I'd have to say the scene where Belize asks Louis to give Roy the "Kaddish" (sorry I don't know how to spell it) and Ethel's "ghost" helps him out. I especially love how at the end, Ethel goes "You son of a bitch" and Louis repeats it. It's oddly touching, probably meant to signify that even though Ethel (and Belize and Louis) hated him, even Roy deserved to be honored in death. Ethel, being Jewish herself, was there to help Louis give the Kaddish as it was meant to be given. Very poignant. It gave me chills!

Wow!!! This thread is still alive.... how fantastic. Yes, I agree with you about the kaddish scene. It still makes me cry. such a powerful moment.

My favorite scenes are with Al Pacino and Jeffrey Wright in the hospital.. Those scenes are great.

The funeral scene and every scene with Emma Thompson as the Angel.

My favourite scene has to be when Prior wrestles with the Angel. I thought that scene was amazing even if Meryl made me lol through the whole thing. Fantastic scene though.

"I have a weakness, I like to lose control."

the scene where Belize and Louis are talking in the rain. At first I didn't really pay attention to it, but now I like it because it's when Belize points out to Louis how hypocritical he is.

I also love the scene when Prior and Mother pitt first meet in the Mormon visitor center.

reply

The absolute best scene is when Louis and Belize are talking in the diner and Louis will not stop talking. and he doesn't even realize the ridiculous stuff he's saying and Belize has to tell him about himself.

The part where Ray Cohn comes out of his hospital room in drug delirium and has a deep introspective conversation about Heaven and Hell with Belize. The vocal tones and the under lighting and the way this scene was shot...I get chills everytime. Excellent film making power house acting. I hope they make film students watch this.

Belize and Roy in the hospital: especially the scene about heaven.
And I loved the ending scene. I thought it was a little corny at first, but Justin Kirk made me cry at the end.
