This question was surely asked before ...

but I can't see any reference to it.

Why didn't Louis have AIDS? Did he ever get himself tested for the disease?

reply

Because the play wasn't written that way.

The value of an idea has nothing whatsoever to do with the sincerity of the man who expresses it.-Oscar Wilde

reply

Because Prior and Lewis practiced safe or safer sex.

Prior mentions (just after the funeral) that they mainly or only had oral sex which is according to my understanding has a low chance of transmitting AIDs.
Belieze mentions Louis suffered from hemoroids, which makes anal sex difficult. So he couldn't particiate in a higher risk activity.

Finally, when Louis was with Joe, he was quite cautious.

I noticed this plot hole too. Also they were together for 5 years predating the start of the AIDS epidemic and Prior was just diagnosed. That means he cheated too.. either that or it was an open relationship. I can understand why Louis wanted to run for the hills not just because of the fear of the disease/getting the disease but because he was in a relationship with an unfaithful partner.
