Stellas older mini (start of the film)

Does anyone know what mini Stella was driving at the start of the film, I am aware it is not a Mk1 like in the original and more of a 90's mini, but I wondered if anyone knew the specifics???

Thanks.

Are you sure you're from the UK? I mean wouldn't you know the specifics if you were?

First of all it may have been an older Mini, but it was the real thing as designed by Alec Issigonis which remained in full production from 1959-2000. Not the bloated and overrated hatchback that BMW had the cheek to stick a Mini badge on.

Anyway from what I remember Theron kept on referring to it as a 1963 Mini Cooper during the pre-release interviews.

But a 1963 Mini Cooper it isn't. No I'm pretty sure it's a late model, perhaps one of the last made (around 2000 then) and certainly a post 1996 model and so it would have come equipped with many a contemporary safety feature like a drivers air-bag and side impact beams etc.

Quite why an American would think a 1963 British built car came with such devices is beyond me?

However many a later model Mini has got past the American import rulings via the use of fake I.D's (a Mini has to be over 25 years old for the import rules). So what is actually a 2000 year model Mini Cooper, has the documentation and vin numbers of a 1960's model.

Very naughty and more so as it's flaunted in front of everyone on the big screen.
