I haven't seen the original (I plan to) but I find it interesting that the old one is considered a comedy and this isn't. I don't think this film took itself seriously. It's a bit challenging to say what I found funny as I haven't seen the film since it was out at the theatres and can't remember much specific but I can give two examples. MINOR SPOILERS. There is a reference to a stereo so loud it would blow a woman's clothes off and there's a scene where a guy sees a waitress with a name tag on and wonders what she calls her other breast.

Trust me the original is a lot funnier, wittier, better acted, better written than this dreadful American hatchet job. Plus the original film has a fantastic car chase with Mini Coopers, while this trashy American film uses f@cking BMWs !!!!

personally I disagree. while the US remake isn't a great movie, it's enjoyably watchable. nothing special, not worth buying or renting but worth watching if it's on TV
the original though... absolutely awful. the jokes weren't funny, the random singing was just out of place, the characters were all either boring or annoying and the ending... well there wasn't one
