Stella was doing fine in the restaurant with Steve until she stupidly used her dads saying about the inner devil word for word. Did she seriously not think this would set off any red flags with somebody who spent a lot of time with her dad and knew him quite well? I know it's a movie, but that was really dumb on her part.

It probably was so common to her that she may have honestly forgot where she first heard it.
I do that a lot. I'll use old expressions that my parents used to say when I was a kid, and it is only after being reminded of the origin that I remember where I learned it.
Additionally, she had been drinking wine during the evening, which presumably made her a little tipsy.
