At the time this movie was made gold was $400 an ounce. Early in the movie we see the team underwater rafting the gold out of the safe and that would not have worked. Gold has 20 times the density of water so the bouyancy effect would have been almost nonexistent.

Yes, I wondered about that too. A litre of gold weighs 19.3Kg on land and so would weigh 18.3Kg in water. Not a big difference. Are you sure about the price of $400/oz back in 2003? It's around $1200/oz at the moment.

It was around $400/oz back in 2003 and you put that much gold in the back of a mini and the front end would probably be off the ground.

This is a common problem in movies depicting gold heists. You always see the characters pick up 400 ounce good delivery bars as if they weighed nothing, but they actually weigh approx 12.5 kgs each. Gold has twice the density and atomic weight of lead - it is really heavy. This is also why large scale real life gold heists are relatively rare. They are a logistical nightmare from beginning to end.
