What the heck was up with the racist jerk of a police officer pinning Radio down to the car when he had a bag in his hand? That really upset me.

I'm not sure he was racist, he may have over-reacted that way to anyone.
From his point of view, this was possibly someone with a lot of stolen goods, who wasn't answering his questions.
Got to remember this was 1976 in a small town in South Carolina. Things were different then. But, unfortunately, some things still haven't changed.
