When I first seen the previews for this movie , it appeared to be an oscar type movie...ed harris... cuba playing a mentally challenged person

was he performance considered bad?

Yes, Gooding's performance was not well received.

I think he did a Great job !!! I mean, He had to ACT LIKE A MENTALLY CHALLENGED person !!! Do you even realize how HARD that is to do ???? !!!;;;. And he did it !!! And did it very convincingly!!!!! 5 STARS !!!!!
