I think why I always go back to this film and love it more and more is because it just reeks of early 2000's british nostalgia..
1. The soundtrack!! Sugababes, The Calling, Kelly Clarkson, Girls Aloud ...it just doesn't get more early 2000's.
2. Back when Martine Mcutcheon was golden girl.
3. And the dude from My Family was riding on the back of his fame from My Family.
4. The references to VHS and CD's..
5. The reference to Blue
6. Back when Christmas number one actually meant something.
7. The scene with Liam Neeson and Thomas Brodie-Sangster sat along the river with the skyline in the background. The London skyline is so different now. And to me not in a nice way.

Yeah, I know what you mean and I agree.
Especially about the skyline bit. I lived in London at the time, and haven’t been back in more than a decade and I am shocked how much it changed when I see current photos and videos. I don’t like huge skyscrapers so much, they look somehow out of place in Europe for me and it’s more of a US thing, or even Asian. But I guess people like it, and you can’t stop progress. Ok, rant over, lets get back to the movie. :)
It really is a nice feel good movie, it is one of my favs. And yeah, I guess it is also about nostalgia of that time for me as well.
I re-watched it (probably for the 5th time) yesterday and man the movie still holds up outstandingly well. It's sort of become my defacto Christmas movie. All the time I watched it, I had a big smile of my face. Just looking at the way the movie was presented makes me want to be in UK during Christmas. Feels so lively!
