Re: Airwolf remake?

After all the hype surrounding the making of this film and then several positive word of mouth recommendations, I was looking forward to seeing it. Imagine my disgust to find the contempt that the writers and director treated their source material with. Granted, Airwolf may not have been the most popular show of the 1980s but I think it is unfair to betray the loyal fan base in the way that the team behind this film have. While the late Jan Michael Vincent portrayed Stringfellow Hawke as an introspective ex-soldier on a quest to find his brother, Hugh Grant plays him (or George Wade as the character has been re-named) as a self-absorbed English idiot. Gone is the remote cabin in the mountains that reflected his character so well, it is replaced with penthouses and business suits. Not only this, but the character of Dominic Santini (the lovable and dependable co-pilot played so brilliantly by the late Ernest Borgnine, one of the greatest actors of his generation) has been altered beyond recognition to a character called Lucy Kelson and is now played by Sandra Bullock. This is political correctness gone beserk. How can the writers justify this decision to ignore the powerhouse performance given by the late Borgnine and replace it with Bullocks insipid sham? The worst thing of all, however, was the writers' decision to remake Airwolf and not feature the titular helicopter. Do they really think that by changing the title they will be able to slip this fact past us? Maybe when the DVD is released the director will see fit to explain his and the writers decisions and perhaps even include an aerial dog-fight or two in the deleted scenes. We can but hope. If this is what we can expect from big Hollywood remakes these days, I don't really hold out any hope for John Woo's remake of Crazy Like a Fox that is due for next summer. Surely I can't be the only one noticing this worrying trend?
