I found this a real let down and I love romantic comedy

I was so looking forward to this film, but I was thinking just end all ready will you, while I was watching it.

There was no spice, the narrative wasn't very strong, no chemistry between the leads, and the support characters were just invisible, if you think of a classic like pretty woman, the hotel manager, and the stuck up woman in the boutique, all these make it more real, the centre story.

But this film was okay, but it could have been so much better, if it had more direction, the narrative just seemed to wander about hopelessley lost.

I couldn't agree less!! I thought the script was particularly good, very fast and funny, a clear strong story, OK at least by rom com standards, and great chemistry between the stars. There were plenty of good support characters, sympathetic and otherwise, Lucy's parents and friend, George's brother, sister-in-law, the know-all chauffeur who still lived at home with his mum, the new girl who throws a spanner in the works plus other more minor ones like the co-worker and the job applicant who have funny moments. There was no violence and no sex and I do object to the former, but it still managed to be totally entertaining and interesting. I can quite understand why it is the most hired DVD although I bought it!

I agree with you.

This movie seemeded to be a typical Hugh Grant movie. Hes the doofy English loveable larikan type....His charm wins over the gal and inevitably they fall in love.

The movie was too predicatble for me and as such was also a disappointment. That said, I did not expect anything from it anyways. Sandra Bullock produced it...Seemed to me like a quick win $$$ for Bullock cashing in on Grants appeal. Neither of them realy oozed the chemistry like in 4 Weddings or Notting Hill.

Boring. I like Sandra Bullock, I like Hugh Grant, and let's face it, romantic comedy either works or it doesn't. It did in Sleepless in Seattle, in Notting Hill and even in While You Were Sleeping. But this is by the numbers, as formulaic and predictable as anything ever made. George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer did it better in One Fine Day, and Intolerable Cruelty blows fluff like this out of the water with it's sharpness.

Sorry girls, I know Hugh's cute, and anyone who wants to put Spinster in her user name will probably swoon over him, but I was disappointed.

Err, I'm male, btw.

Yes this movie was predictable but most romantic comedies are. That did not bother me at all. I came out of the movie theatre smiling and in a great mood after seeing this movie. I love both Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock and together they were very very funny. A great pair.

The dialogue, the delivery, and the chemistry between Sandra & Hugh are spot on. One of my favorite romantic comedies, and as a rule I don't much care for this genre.
