Huge hole in this episode, how was it not spotted before?!
Val Birch is on the show because he is blackmailing the host. He is blackmailing the host because he killed the assistant who found out about the cheating. But the cheating happened because of the murder? The murder happened because of the cheating? This episode is a paradox!
The assistant was killed because she said she would expose his conspiring in previous episodes of the game show which showed he helped a contestant cheat. She was going to give the evidence to the producer of the show (and would be fired and probably not get another job in the same field because of the ethical problem) if he did not announce he was leaving the show that night. The blackmailer found the tape and, despite being a moron, put two and two together and discovered the cheating scheme was blackmailing the host for the murder of his assistant and the cheating on the show.
shareThank you for your reply. If this was the case (the host was helping another previous contestant win), then it should have been explained a lot better I.e. why is he helping contestants cheat.

It just sucked because the rest of the cast weren't in it. IMHO.
shareI haven't watched this episode in a while, and it's not one of my favorites, but I believe he may have been doing it to pay off some sort of gambling debt...maybe.
