Why did the box have Stanley's name on it?

I don't remember the film going too far into this but as far as I know it was Kate's treasure. What exactly is her relationship with Stanley/his family?

Stanley's great grandfather was robbed by Kissing Kate.

Kate stole that treasure (well, robbed it) from Stanley's great-grandfather, the first Stanley Yelnats. That's why his name is on it.
