How could he find a fossil in his hole??

that entire scene was retarded. He should have found a rotten shoe or something

The historic part of the story when the lake there took place in what years, like the 1890's or something? How could a fossil form that fast? I thought it took like a million years for fossils to form!! And he found it only like 5 feet in the ground, shouldn't it be farther? because seeing how it's a fossil, it was formed millions of years ago and way beneath the dirt n' stuff

it does not take a million years for a small fish fossil to form. at least i'm pretty sure it doesn't.

There are many million-year-old fossils in my home. When climate change occurs if I leave them behind they'll all be out of place in the fossil record.

Fossils can also break loose and wash into other areas with erosion and precipitation.

'Retarded' isn't a word to throw around, Mr Lopez. It makes you appear juvenile and special needs yourself. Fossil formation can happen in 100 years or less depending upon the type.

The lake was likely tens of thousands of years old before it dried up. And fossilized rocks when they break loose from sediment can easily get tossed closer to the surface layer.

Is this really an important plot point?

I sometimes find fossils in my hole :]

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

if you dig a hole that that big and deep in the movie under your feet, you might find a fossil of unknown species, too. Or maybe you are lucky to find a treasure box with your name on it.

So you're saying that fossils can't exist simply because of the amount of time between the main story timeline and the past? So... fossils didn't exist before then or something?
