Just so good.

How the past links to the present with the story of Kate Barlow being the reason they're digging the holes. The characters being related to the characters of the past and their stories following The treasure she stole being put in the box from Stanley Yelnats I. And even little quips like Armpit telling Stanley at the end that he stinks.

Always good films about young boys, 80s with The Goonies, 90s with The Sandlot and 00s with Holes.

It was an uncommonly intelligent film with a well-constructed story and terrific performances from the entire cast. Of course there's no way something like this could happen in real life, but this movie obviously doesn't take place in real life. It's a fantasy film that plays by its own rules yet remains firmly grounded in its own plausibility. I really enjoyed it.

You folks are really talking about the book.
It won several book awards including the Newberry, and the author has written several books is pretty well recognized in those circles.
