Mistake Right In The Beginning of Movie??

Stan went to the camp because he "stole" shoes, which in actuality, were shoes thrown over the bridge by Zero (Hector) and Stan unluckily caught them. In the beginning of the movie Zero was already at the camp and had to have been there for at least some period of time to already have the hang of things and for the other camp members to have given him a nickname. So, how is it that Zero threw the shoes and was in the camp at the same time? As soon as Stan was arrested he went to court and then the camp. And Zero even said he was not arrested until the day after Stan was. So, unless it was some time between Stan being arrested and then going to court and then the camp before Zero did, I feel like this was a huge error.

That's really one of the only things I don't like about this story. Zero had to have been there for at least a month or two to be as used to digging holes as he was and to have already been given a nickname by the others AND be disliked be even Pendanzki.

Yet, he wasn't arrested until after Stanley was and it didn't seem like Stanley was on trial for long enough to have Zero be so established at Camp Green Lake.

I asked this question myself after watching the movie recently. If Stanley and Zero both got arrested for stealing shoes within the same 48 hour period, why did Zero end up at Camp Green Lake before Stanley?

My only guess is that it must have taken longer to convict Stanley which is understandable because he was innocent. Zero was a homeless child living on the streets when he was arrested. He had no family members to help him like Stanley did. Zero most likely was sentenced before Stanley.

Phew, glad I'm not the only one who saw that error and had it bother them through the entirety of the movie, haha.

Stanley had a trial, which could have lasted for a while. Also in the book, Zero said even before he got sent to Camp Green Lake, people called him Zero. It wasn't a nickname given to him by the other boys.

If I remember correctly, in the novel, Clyd Livingston's baseball tournaments slowed down Stanley's trial by a few more months.

Stanley went through court and trials, they just threw the homeless zero in right away

The court system takes times. It could have been several months between Stanley getting busted and actually being sentenced. See as how Zero is a ward of the state he could have been busted and sentenced much more quickly.

Late reply but another thing to consider is that since Zero was stealing shoes from a store they likely had absolute proof (security camera) that it was him so his trial would have been more open and closed than Stanley's.

Zero is his real name. Plus caveman had a lawyer.
