Three little questions...

First of all, I love this movie. Just watched it again a few days ago. A few things keep bothering me.
1-When they are at the diner, Patty goes outside to "call the office," so, she could apparently get cell signal. So, when they flee Weaver like a bat out of *&$! and go to the diner, why didn't they use her cell?
2-When they arrive in Weaver, we see Patty using a camcorder. If they needed proof to show the Sheriff, why didn't they think of showing what she had taped? Instead, they talk about taking Matt's camera to a 1 hour photo place to get his film developed.
3-If you were Ethan's family, would you just leave him there? They apparently called when he was missing, so they must have had a idea where they were.
Anyone? Thanks!

Ok, old thread but I just watched this so here is my best guess:
1&2-when the dad returns with the car Patty is just getting out of the mine shaft and they all basically dive in the car. I'm guessing perhaps the cell and/or the camcorder was left behind in one of the Weaver buildings.
3-No one in the film was related to Ethan, he was just a friend of the son. After escaping Weaver, Patty says she will call his parents to let them know what is going on, but that they (his parents) are out of town so she will have to leave a message. Assuming they had found him and life had returned to normal, I can't imagine they would be to thrilled with them abandoning him in the desert.

Thanks for the reply.
I too think that Ethan's family would have at least tried to find him.
Or maybe they did and just became part of the locals.
Hmmmm!
