I just watched the movie again (after like 9 years), and I wonder what happened to them. Such a sad ending. I hope that they got safely out of harms way.

Believe me, those two haut-bourgeois escaped back to their unbelievably valuable apartment in the 8th arrondissement and their ultra-privileged life without a scratch. They definitely did not die for the cause.

Eventually one of them would have hooked up with a bf or gf, and the spell would have been broken for good. Their r'ship with Matthew was a crack that let in the light.

As to their parents - there would never have been any discussion whatever of what the parents saw, or thought they saw. They are French, after all.
