She says her first words were "New York Herald Tribune?" from 1960's Breathless...8 years before this took place.

"This is a $4000 sofa upholstered in Italian silk. Its not just a couch"
"ITS JUST A COUCH!"

She was referencing a famous scene from the Jean-Luc Godard film "Breathless". It's not meant to be taken literally.
