...are PERVERTS, with dirty, corrupted minds. The nude form is art in itself. I wonder if these people get offended when they look at paintings from Botticelli or Waterhouse. Do they also consider the statue of Michelangelo's David to be a dirty image of pornography? Do these people think of their own bodies as dirty as well? If so they must not be very happy with their lives. Well I hope they don't take their children to those awful museums because if they glimpse a penis or a breast those kids will surely become rapists.

It never ceases to amaze me how ass backwards society is when it comes to the human form yet they have absolutely no trouble showing senseless murder and mutilation.

For such an evolved species we certainly have a lot of growing up to do and a lot of priorities to sort out.

While the gist of your post is true, there are contexts in which nudity could be viewed as offensive or vulgar. Me having a picture of my daughter in the tub magnetted on my fridge is fine. The same pic on a stranger's computer is not. Context is everything. Consider that before you decide you know where everyone is coming from.

If your daughter is a child, yes thats not fine but thats not what the original poster here is talking about. None of the actors in The Dreamers are children and seeing the beauty in nudity is obviously being directed at the fully developed adult form.

We find the nudity dirty, because what's implied behind the nudity is dirty. YOU are the pervert if you think incest is "beautiful" or "a work of art." NO, Botticelli paintings are not dirty because it's admiring the human body, and not in a sexual manner. Your opinion is bad, and you should feel bad.

Wow, I always wanted to meet someone who thought Bertolucci films were "dirty." Damn, do people like you still exist? Do you also believe that gays go to hell? Incidentally, where did i write anything about incest? The subject was nudity, nothing else. It really must suck to think of your own nude body as dirty. That really is an unhealthy mindset to be living in. i guess religion is to blame..

I never said the human body is disgusting. The nude body can be beautiful when not displayed in a perverted fashion. Atheist? I'm Catholic actually. I'm just not a psycho Catholic who masturbates in the dark because i'm afraid God might see me, hahahahahaha. And there is that word; PERVERTED. You just exposed a lot about yourself simply by using that word. There is nothing "perverted" about this, or ANY of Bertolucci's films, you sick weirdo. My advice to unhealthy people like you; don't visit any museums! There is so much "perversion" on display that you will surely burn in Hell for even looking upon such filth! Hahahahahahahahahaha..

I'm not Catholic, you ignorant child. And I stated TWICE that the naked human body can be beautiful. I've been to many art museums in Europe and have seen many nude works of art, none which disgusted me. Just goes to show how little you know about me and how you shut my opinion out because you're a close minded bigot. I get that "The Dreamers" is an art film, I just found some scenes unsettling. We're discussing a movie here, yet you think you have the right to be childish because I disagree with what you have to say. Typical bigot.

I didn't say YOU were Catholic; I said that I was Catholic, you silly cow. Pay closer attention if you expect a response. Wow, if you found any part of "The Dreamers" unsettling, then i suggest you stay away from harder fare like "120 Days of Sodom." That one would probably turn your brain to dust, (or what is left of your brain.) And wow! you have been to Europe? I live in Europe, (Germany) so should I be impressed that some silly American has set foot on MY continent? Do us all a favor; stay in America please, and keep your quaint, anemic opinions on sexuality to yourself. You are only making people depressed with your repressed, archaic views. "The Dreamers" is a beautiful film btw; even the way the brother/sister relationship was handled was quite innocent, and totally harmless. If you can't deal with adult themes then why look at such films?

I stated my opinion on this film, I'm not changing it, and I sure as hell am not going to try to explain it further because I already did. Picking a fight with me about a film is just ridiculous.

Sorry, but he's quite right about repression that's still heavy in many countries. In my country, even kissing in public is not looked upon well. The point is such repression is mostly meaningless. Awareness is a good thing, it's superficial to think awareness in anything, including incest will lead to it actually. There are possibly many occasions around the world where one could find lesser morals practiced, without the involved even aware that they are indeed regarded lesser morals. It depends on the culture.

The rating system for movies is also totally inaccurate. You can never make a natural film without nudity or sex, it's part of everyone's lives.

Because much of the Judea-Christian teaching say that humans are dirty/ignorant animals until their "SkyDaddy" makes them pure...like him.That shaming and the "special" ways of "thinking" like "faith" and "Belief"(individual reason is "evil"!)are preferred tactics of the organized superstition cartels. This "thinking" created a social (negative)mindset about nudity/sexuality that still emanates from Americas bible belt and other backward areas of the world...where brainwashing children is still practiced.

It's one step away from the Islamists who want women to wear burkas in public. It's the same mentality.

Sex isn't necessarily bad. Sexual desire isn't really ever bad at all because you don't necessarily have to ACT on all your sexual desires. And nudity doesn't always HAVE TO provoke sexual desire. Nor is nudity the only thing that creates sexual desire. What about hot women in yoga pants? Should hot women be forbidden from ever wearing yoga pants because it creates sexual desire in men? You start down this road, you eventually end up demanding women wear full-length burkas so they don't inflame desires that men are ashamed of and feel they can't control.

If you really KNOW that you're more than an animal or are at least capable of controlling your own animal desires when you need to, nudity wouldn't really bother you.

To have that much nudity is way unnecessary and it's not art. It IS perverted and so are you. A little nudity is ok but this is way overboard.

People seem to freak out more over male nudity. I think the film suffered it's NC17 rating primarily because of Michael's full-frontal nudity.

The sex was explicit, but nothing I haven't seen already in a million other R rated films.

Ever considered that many societal problems stem from oversexualization? Nudity is often sexually arousing which can lead to many bad consequences.
