the planet absorbed his consciousness and killed him physically

there would have been no way that the planet could have possibly transported his wife's genetic material all the way back from earth, the planet used his own memories of her to create a replica, it used this replica to draw him in, and ultimately killed him- basically the planet used his own memories to kill him. it destroyed him physically, but somehow (?) allowed his consciousness to live on, with a life that he considered good based on his own memories. for what reason the planet would do this i don't know.

but the fact was, his wife was dead, and now so was he

Which is the one of the major points of the film. We simply have no way to clearly understand or even define what Solaris is.

Yeah, not really the same.

Solaris didn't have a child and have a book written by multiple men. The man-made God's have understanding, Solaris is an alien with no backstory, very little research done on it, and knows more about the human psyche than even we do.

Now, you can define it as a higher being, whatever, but there is no indication it's God or a paradise.

But does it? All it does is read the memories of the humans aboard the space station and then create a copy of someone in their past based on those memories. Solaris may or may not be sentient - it could be some sort of machine programmed to do exactly that - create copies. It may be carrying out research on its subjects, but it doesn't seem to create anything original - Chris and Rheya will apparently live in a copy of his apartment, for example - in other words, dictated by Chris's memories in particular. Rheya's memories are filtered through those of Chris, so will she ever remember anything of her life before she met Chris, for example? Is she an independent person, or just something created for Chris?
