My interpretation of the ending

I looked thru part of the thread that already exists about the ending, but it is 5 pages long and I ran out of patience trying to read thru them all to see if anyone's matches what I got from the film.

I really loved this film besides what I felt was a miscast with Jeremy Davis as Snow.

It seemed to me that at the end, Chris chooses to not go back to earth, yet we see a scene of him clearly back on earth, along with a scene where he notices he has no scar on his finger, so therefore is he a copy? Then Rheya shows up for a "happy ending".

This seems contradictory since they also show a scene of the inside of the escape ship, and clearly he, nor a copy of him is anywhere to be seen. -And- we see the scene of him left at the Solaris space station as it gets engulfed by Solaris.

So... what I got from that is the scene of him back on earth at the end was something like an alternate reality that Solaris creates for him when he chooses to stay at the space station and he kind of "merges" with Solaris itself.

Anyone else thinking along these lines?

Other than "God reaching out to Adam" in Chris's mind seeking forgiveness him with wive(s)...Solaris (God) makes all good in the end?

Bravo. You're making so much sense on so many levels that I'm scared to even look at the 5-page thread for fear of seeing afterlife and alien invasion ideas from people who need to take things literally--I mean, movies are *fictions* ffs, fantasies. The 1972 version's ending works the same way psychologically and emotionally. That movie's great, but it will be too long and ponderous for a lot of people.

It would also be empty and out of touch to think that the child at the end is the minor character Gibarian's. Even if it's the same child actor, he still *represents* the aborted child. Otherwise, it just makes no psychological or narrative sense to toss in such a minor character as an afterthought at such a crucial moment.

Maybe I'm pooping out of the litter box here, but could it be possible that Gordon, escaping but still in Solaris reach, had a visitor created for her that was Kelvin? And she brought it to Earth?

Given they were at each others' throats for much of the movie, I'd say that is an extremely unlikely scenario. Nice thought bubble but yes, I think the floor may need cleaning.🐭

If you saw the original, it was pretty clear that the "reality" at the ending was actually an island within the Solaris "ocean". It wasn't the same Solaris reality that Clooney's character experiences, but I think it makes sense that the creators of this remake would create an alternate "Solaris" reality to keep somewhat with the intent of the original story.

i think maybe he died in the space ship and now he is wherever Rheya is! i dont know maybe heaven maybe a parallel universe or any where Solaris decided!!

Remember when he was sleeping, and his wife went to get herself blasted by that death ray? He was dreaming, and there was a scene where the wall was ripped open, exposing outer space. He could have died, and he is now a "visitor", much like the child and Snow.

This was exactly what I took away from the film.

 The bad news is you have houseguests. There is no good news. 

I don't think it's an alternate reality.
His time back on Earth is "simulated" on Solaris.
He never left Solaris. He became part of it together with Rhea.
I guess it just took him a while to grasp what was going on.

That was exactly what I was thinking at the end, glad to see others are thinking along he same lines :)
