An underappreciated horror film

I guess this is one of those love it or hate it scenarios. I was really surprised by all the bad reviews this film received. Compared to a lot of other horror films out there, especially during 2002, this film really isn't that bad. At least the concept was creative and somewhat original. There were so many messed up, along with dark humored memorable scenes. I really don't understand all the negative feedback. In my opinion, this film is a classic. Sure, it's not the greatest horror film ever made. But I enjoyed it.

You are not alone. I love this and Hostel.

Hostel is a great horror film. It's such a shame that it's labeled as a meaningless torture-porn flick. I thought Hostel 2 was great as well.

reply

This movie kicked ass!!!

I always thought this was a pretty highly regarded horror film by fans of the genre?

reply

Maybe. But not according to the countless reviews I read on Imdb.

Thats what I mean by fans of the genre. Critics are notoriously hard on horror flicks, even the very best get lackluster reviews. Its the same with sci-fi, they are usually overly critical. Most people who like horror appreciate this, at least to my knowledge. They did make 2 sequals to this, so somebody must have liked it.

Good point. I honestly don't know how any horror fan could watch this movie and think it was to the point of being 'terrible'. I consider it a horror classic. And I don't understand all the bad stigma that's linked to director Eli Roth either. In comparison to other directors out there, he's really not that bad. Though, I can't say that any of his recent films have been memorable.

This movie was really funny that is what makes it so great. The fucking party cop was legendary, i die laughing every time i see that. Critics always hate comedies and never appreciate them like the true fans do. I have no interest in what a "movie critic" thinks about anything...

I re-watched this last year. The first time I didn't mind it. The second time though the awful acting was unbearable.

Did u see the unnecessary re-make? It's almost a shot for shot remake to the point you could probably mix and match scenes from both movies and no one would know...

reply

I never seen the remake but I just watched the party cop scene with some women as the party cop instead of someone who at least resembled Giuseppe Andrews. It was so dumb I can't believe they remade this movie in such a lame way. A women party cop??? Why????????? At least she is really hot.

Giuseppe Andrews is the real and only party cop! The Cabin Fever 2 and 3 were pretty good I liked them but that 2016 version looks like trash

reply

I read about the remake being basically shot for shot, and that's why I didn't watch it. Plus, it was only 14 years after the original. Shouldn't there be a cutoff on when movies can be remade? Maybe 20 years, at least.

*** SPOILERS !!! ***

What's wrong with this flick? The water get mysteriously infected by flesh eating virus which we don't know about until towards the end. It gets a dog named Pancakes first and then its hermit master. Next, some hot blonde chick gives up a vacation in Belize to go camping with some shy guy she's known since middle school. Bert brings a hi-powered assault rifle, but doesn't know how to use it. Almost shoots his friend's penis off, but he raises his leg to avoid getting shot. Some guy named Grim shows up and is thought to be creepy until he produced a big bag of weed. The group wanted some more weed, but doesn't ask to buy any. Next, the hermit guy who should know where his butcher cousin is shows up at their cabin still looking for help except he's got a bullitt wound now. A little later, the sheriff finally shows up at their cabin and there is some question whether he's a man or woman. She was a woman in mine. I forgot. There was boy in a bunny mask who enjoys waiting in front of a store and biting stranger's hands. That's probably the first twenty minutes and you think this move is underappreciated haha.
