This is really a great serie

I just watched this mini series, and wow, what a character this Augustus Melmotte is! And how great Suchet is in it! He's performing such a powerful, greedy, inelegant, unpleasent but yet fascinating and very human figure.

In the beginning Melmotte is rather repulsive, but I actually really got to like the character after a while. He's rather energetic in a calm way, he's the one, that makes things happen, and towards the end he becomes very human and reflecting over, why he went so far... It's a bit heartbreaking, actually, even though he's a scoundrel... He is working really hard to become a member of the english high society and to be accepted by the establishment, and he even tries to solve the problems, he has caused.

The other characters (and actors) are doing splendid, too. I especially like Melmottes daughter, she is so wonderfully strong and rebellish (hm, can you put the word rebel in that tense: rebellish?)

I love all the scenes, where she and Melmotte are arguing, screeming, fighthing... it's so refreshing and with such temper, it made the characters vital and passionate. I got so engaged in those scenes, that I almost felt I was there, fighting alongside with them

There is no "rebellish" in English , although I really like the look and sound of it!

The word you're searching for is "rebellious".

I agree this was a very good and entertaining series!

LOL - thanks for making that clear ;) Now, looking at and saying the word "rebellish" again, it more sounds like something you eat LOL

Nice to hear that you liked the series, too...

Augustus Melmotte reminded me of Danny DeVito's Penguin in the Batman franchise. hehehe. Suchet was great as Melmotte.

I loved "The Painted Veil." Please do try to see it.

Yeah, he would be great as the Penguin ;) - but I think Danny de Vito really did a good job, in there...
