The book
I was just wondering if anyone has read the book? I just finished it and I loved it and I am very tempted to watch it even though I know it probably won't be as good! People let me know your thoughts!
shareHello rhiana, I read I Capture the Castle about 2 years ago and loved it too; it was joyful, evocative and tinged with sadness.
Before you consider actually buying the DVD, I suggest you rent it first, if you can.
Be warned that the film cuts a few things out and that some of the characters' very precise physical descriptions differ dramatically from the ones in the book.
On the whole I liked the film version: it doesn't slavishly follow the novel, but maintains the spirit of the story, even if the book is much better in my opinion.
If you come across my post entitled 'Some comments on the novel and film', DON'T read it; I am afraid it would give too much away; I think you should be able to make up your own mind about the film and I certainly don't want to ruin it for you.
