A beautiful film


I think I would rate this as one of my all-time favourite films. I loved the sense of period the film conveys; it really felt like stepping back into the 1950s. The manners of the time were very well-conveyed, with that front of middle-class respectability masking the pain and denial underneath. The clothes and furnishings were a delight and brought back memories of how my parents dressed when I was a young child.


Sophisticated? I've been to Leeds.

It indeed is a beautiful film, in both look and tone. It's a great one to drag out every few years as a reminder of excellent contemporary filmmaking. 9/10 stars from me.
