The history reference
Hi,
What was the name of that Island where those 100 people in the past mysteriously vanished? The guy in the wheelchair told the story. If it was true, Id sure like to read more about it.

The character played by Clifton Collins Jr. references the 16th-century mystery of Roanoke Island to explain their current situation. In 1590 at the colony of Roanoke, Virginia, over 100 people disappeared without a trace. The only clue found was a series of unexplained letters "croatoan" carved on a tree and discovered by investigating Governor John White when he returned to the colony from England and found the colonists gone. White took the letters to mean that the settlers had moved to Croatoan Island some 50 miles away, but no trace of them was ever found there or anywhere else.
shareFascinating story, thanks.
sharePlease forgive my ignorance, I am not familiar with this format and I would like to go off topic here. Firstly, if someone would be kind enough to teach me how to start a new thread, I would be very grateful. I wanted to let everyone know that there is a great trailer for Val's film "Fake Identity", you can check it out www.dennisdimster.com it looks really exciting. Hopefully it will be released soon. As for Mindhunters, the twists and turns kept me guessing thoughout the film, I was disappointed that Val wasn't in it more and I hated seeing the scene where he was strung up like a puppet, hard for me to watch. Peace and Blessings
shareIn the history books the vanished colonists is known as "The Lost Colony"...
shareRoanoke Island, and yes, that really did happen.

Life is about jumping off the cliff and hoping to the high Heavens that you can fly!
This isn't much of a mystery at all.
- Roanoke Island was known to be extremely low on food and other supplies (the colonists weren't given any supplies when they settled)
- No one checked in with them for three years after they settled
- The word "CROATAN" was found carved into a tree in the empty villiage
- A while later, light skinned, blue eyed natives were found hunting and gathering with other natives....
- On CROATAN island.
What the previous poster said is the most common belief.
The settlers went native out of need, it isn't a far stretch to believe that they discovered or were discovered by a local Native American tribe.
Wow, That story was middle school history stuff when I was in school. What do they teach in history now-a-days?
