first - ie the blonde chick and a movie where this supposed genius level killer, who outsmarted what was supposed to be a group of very bright people including Kilmer's veteran character, either realistically gets away or at least doesnt die in such a lame way.
I personally thought the ending of the movie ruined what was a fairly decent movie. The plot was pretty okay, although i thought it was stupid that essentially slater and kilmer were mia fairly early on. Honestly i knew LL was going to make it , he always does see H20 and Deep blue sea. But the deaths and setting were interesting and then the ending was meh. oh well.
I agree that the ending ruined the movie. They should all die with the exception for the killer, who should be revealed at the very end in The Usual Suspects/Saw style with a flashback montage.
Yes it is! - In the very, very bad Dungeons and Dragons, the comic relief is brutally butchered by the bad guy's lieutenant. And has his body thrown off some very high castle wall right afterwards.
...if only it would've been jar jar binks instead...
I think the problem with the movie, is that it was very predictable from the start that the black guy and the blonde girl were always going to be the survivors. Most of these type of thrillers will always have the girl survive.
But no-one came out of that ending looking good, what with the incompetence of the blonde girl, the cop turning murderous and trying to kill everybody and the "clever killer" of the earlier part of the movie devolving into a clumsy incompetent killer complete with an ex-positional monologue that includes an origin and a statement of how clever he was.
I think if they really wanted a twist, the blonde girl should have been the killer, but I dont think they wanted a real twist, just the appearance of a twist.
Though on the good side, it reminded me a lot of 10 Little Indians, and I was hoping it would have the survivor charged with all the murders (another good twist), but alas not to be.
Though the best thing about the movies was the great cast let down by the girl from Cold Case who despite having gorgeous eyes, is an average actress at best.
My interpretation of the clever killer turning more incompetent is that there were 2 psycho killers on the island. The first killer was Jake. Lucas discovers that Jake (his competitor) is still on the island, and murdering. Lucas finds him, kills him and takes over the fun and games. He seemed surprised when the tape of his confrontation with Jake was playing. He tried to talk over it so nobody would notice it was him on the tape. I think Jake was taping for his own sick enjoyment.
The point was she wasn't incompetent. She had a problem with panicking under pressure. Notice that she excels at times; figuring out the clock and the number code.
