I really want to like this movie, but it stinks

Every time this comes on I tried to give it a chance, because I like the first one a lot.

But, this movie stinks. The effects weren't even good when the movie came out, the story has too much going on, turning Riddick to a superhero was a bad call.

Lol, totally disagree with everything you said.

I enjoyed this movie ALOT. Seen it multiple times actually since it's always a blast to watch.

As a sci-fi action/adventure it doesn't get much better than this in my opinion.

Sure it's corny but you feel the movie is aware of it and it doesn't retract from the experience.

Oh and by the way, everything you said I disagree with.

He wasn't even turned into a superhero, he was just his usual antihero self.
The most telling thing about superheroes is that they try not to kill anyone. This is certainly not the case with Riddick.

Yeah... For a long time, I used to put TCOR on every night before going to bed - a few others were: Serenity, Blade Runner (when finally remastered properly, one of the versions), even Casino Royale had its turn and a return, hehe, after seeing the garbage they filmed afterwards, in the 007 series.

^^ Oh and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (as well as the other two) & Hayden Christensen is one of the better things in the films, btw. :)

Hey....good choices!

My ratings are not always like the IMDB average score because I only enjoy intelligent movies.

I thought it was a good sci-fi flick. I was quite happy that they decided to do something different with the character. The recent sequel was a bit too much like the original (although still entertaining).

Liked it (ofc!), but didn't love it - too long of an intro, then the rest was rushed - or, something (just a bad script, most probably, unfortunately). Seems like they had been more interested in flashing nudity, for teenagers, coming up with that "lingo" which was so cheap and misplaced - than with fixing what the screenwriters messed up, heh. ;-/

(It was GREAT to see Riddick again (!), but I'm not sure if it would've been better for them to had ended the story with TCOR, after all)

First of all you, Riddick was never a villian. He was just made to appear that way. Name one thing he actually did that was bad? They just used the typical steroperception against the audience.

Secondly, I can see why you say that. I suggest you watch this film the best way possible and then come back to me and tell me if you feel the say way. Also do the same thing for the first one.

The way to watch this film is on 1080p screens on bluray with a home theater. The Director's cut.

These are the only way to really get the full appreciation of these films. The Cgi looks better, The dark atmosphere looks better, the surround sounds are like your in another planet. You can appreciate the cgi. In the director's cut its more themed than action packed. You get more of the story and its reason behind it than just plain action.

Hope you follow my instructions.

Why am I such a misfit? I am not just a nitwit.

The Director's cut.

I totally agree. The editing from the director’s cut to the theatrical cut is noticeable. Forget about watching it on network television when it’s aired. It came on over the weekend (FX maybe) and I’m not sure if a first time viewer would even understand what’s going on, it was chopped so much.

reply

I agree it is so chopped off and many of the great themes are also out.

I still watch it though cuz its a lot of fun even if it’s just in the background.

I saw it in 2004, I hated it and swore I would never pay to watch another Hollywood movie again.

But I was angry and cynical back then, maybe I should watch it again now that I'm older and more mellow.

The bar was set so low in these past 10 years that this might look like a masterpiece by comparison.

We'll see ... I'll be back...

reply

So.... how was it?

Blame The Matrix (99) for turning Riddick into a Superhero.

The success of that movie and it's sequels gave rise to another "Neo" type of Sci Fi.

It's another movie that (for me) is not really good but very watchable.
