I guess no one agreed yet huh?
You'de hate me for replying to you even though I don't agree, but for the reason to suggest a theory to you.
Considering the most common time-travel theory, which basically is a 'ButterFly Effect'; meaning: everything affects everything, even the tyniest of detail (like spitting the gum on the floor instead of keep chewing, for example.) Anyhow, one of the likely possibilities that could be true is that they actually never did get back together, and maybe GyunWoo's visit to past was to Reminisce his good all' times as he remembers her the most and subconsciously (or not) drop a GIGANTIC hint to 'The Girl' that the tree that she loves so much is not the same one, rather a desperate attempt in recreating it for someone (HER), by someone else (HIM), so that someone's heart (hers) won't be broken. Up to that point she was still strongly debating whether she should get back in touch with Gyunwoo or not, and leaning more towards forgetting him and that's why she went abroad, to get away from everything and to think things through. When she came back she tried to reach him on the cell, but the number was out of service. I think that the sympathetic 'Tree-Bit' was what eventually got her to change her heart and try to get back with him. Without that, maybe they wouldn't have gotten back together.
The movie was basically about fate, plus, there are nesteggs (movie secrets) that point that 'the old man' (himself from the future) was present during some of the events that took place during the movie. Or maybe the UFO time travel gimmick was the real guy's (the internet poster) wish, that he could come back in time and try everything he could so that he'll end up with her. After all, in real life they never got back together, just went on separate ways.
